How To Make The Tough Decisions When Choosing A New Home
One of the burdens everyone has to face is making the tough decisions when choosing a home. Over the course of your search for your dream home, you’ll be faced with many decisions. Some will have small impacts and others will be big. So here are a few tips to help make the tough decision:
1. Make Compromises
When buying a home we are faced with making compromises. Don't waste your time looking for perfect, spoiler it doesn't exist! We all have limitations, budget usually being the biggest. However, homes are also limited by Building codes, setbacks, associations, etc. When house hunting be sure to define your must-haves, should-haves, and like-to-haves. Now that you have this list, after viewing each home ask yourself does this house have my must-haves? Maybe it has some of your should-haves but not like-to-haves, that's okay! By keeping your priorities in mind, your forever home will be so much easier to find.
2. Write a Pros and Cons list
Let's say it comes down to two homes. They meet many of your must-have criteria, so how do you pick? Write a pros and cons list. Way out everything on paper in front of you. The house with more pros is your winner!
3. Get a Home Inspection
One of the most important steps to do before buying a home is to get a home inspection. There are some crucial tests your new home needs to pass when sometimes it can help make that tough decision. Look into the plumbing, heat, ventilation and air conditioning, water test, etc. Test everything and check off some essential pieces before you begin picturing yourself in that new spacious living room.
4. Take Your Time
When looking for a new home it can be time-sensitive, but it is important that you don’t rush the process. You must take time to consider your goals, financial decisions and etc. Never rush into making your big decision. Taking a second to weigh all options will guide you into making a sound purchase. I'm not saying drag your feet, I am saying be patient and stay organized, the right house will come along and it will be everything you were hoping for.
